Sufyan on Dua: Hardship with supplication better than ease

Abu Ruh reported: Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “What a servant dislikes is better for him than what he likes, as what he dislikes compels him to supplicate and what he likes distracts him from it.”

عن أبي رَوْحٍ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ رحمه الله مَا يَكْرَهُ الْعَبْدُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِمَّا يُحِبُّ لِأَنَّ مَا يَكْرَهُهُ يَهِيجُهُ عَلَى الدُّعَاءِ وَمَا يُحِبُّ يُلْهِيهِ عَنْهُ
