Hadith on Kibr: I want my soul to be pure of arrogance

Abdullah ibn Hanzalah reported: Abdullah ibn Salaam, may Allah be pleased with him, passed by the market carrying bundles of firewood. It was said to him, “What makes you do this? Allah does not need you to do this.” Abdullah said, “I want to be purged of arrogance. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: One will not enter Paradise with the weight of a seed of arrogance in his heart.

عن عَبْد اللَّهِ بْن حَنْظَلَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سَلامٍ رضي الله عنه مَرَّ فِي السُّوقِ وَعَلَيْهِ حِزْمَةُ حَطَبٍ فَقِيلَ لَهُ مَا يَحْمِلُكَ عَلَى هَذَا وَقَدْ أَغْنَاكَ اللَّهُ عَنْ هَذَا قَالَ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَدْمَغَ الْكِبْرَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ فِي قَلْبِهِ خَرْدَلَةٌ مِنْ كِبْرٍ
