Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, the most beloved to me are those of you with the best character, soft in nature, friendly and befriended. The most hateful of you to Allah are those who spread gossip, causing discord between loved ones and seeking misery for the innocent.”

Grade: Hasan li ghayrihi (fair due to external evidence) according to Al-Albani
Imam al-Qari commented, “Misery for the innocent, that is, hardship, corruption, destruction, sin, fault, error, and temptation. All of these meanings are applicable to the word ‘misery’ and the hadith may include all of them.”
