Hatim on Shahwah: Three types of lust in eating, speaking, staring

Al-Bayhaqi reported: Hatim al-Asam, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “Lusts are three types: lust in eating, lust in speaking, and lust in gazing. Guard your eating with confidence, your tongue with truthfulness, and your gaze with tears.”

عن البيهقي قَالَ حَاتِمٌ الأصم رحمه الله الشَّهْوَةُ ثَلاثٌ شَهْوَةٌ فِي الأَكْلِ وَشَهْوَةٌ فِي الْكَلامِ وَشَهْوَةٌ فِي النَّظَرِ فَاحْفَظِ الأَكْلَ بِالثِّقَةِ وَاللِّسَانَ بِالصِّدْقِ وَالنَّظَرَ بِالْعَبْرَةِ
