Hadith on Luxury: Having more furniture than needed is blameworthy

Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There is a bedding for a man, a bedding for his wife, the third bedding for his guest, and the fourth is for Satan.”

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim

Al-Nawawi said, “The scholars said it means that if what taken is additional to one’s needs, then it is only a type of bragging, boasting, and amusing oneself with the luxuries of the world. Whatever has these types of characteristics is blameworthy.”
