Hadith on Martyrdom: Cannot claim a specific person is a martyr

Abu al-‘Ajfa reported: Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “You say in your battles that such a specific person is a martyr and died as a martyr. Perhaps he only intended to load his mount with spoils. Surely you should not say this, but rather say as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever dies or is killed in the way of Allah is a martyr.”

Ibn Hajar said, “It is not said that a specific person is martyr, meaning decisively, unless it is by revelation.”
