Malik on Personality: Everyone should act on the best deeds easiest for them

Ibn Abdul Barr reported: Abdullah ibn Abdul Aziz wrote to Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, encouraging him to isolate himself for worship and discouraging him from gatherings of knowledge. Malik wrote back to him, “Allah Almighty has distributed good deeds just as he has distributed provision. A man may have the way of prayer opened for him but the way of fasting is unopened for him. Another may have the way of charity opened for him but the way of fasting is unopened for him. Another may have the way of jihad opened for him but the way of prayer is unopened for him. The spreading of knowledge and teaching it is among the best of righteous deeds. I am pleased with what Allah has opened for me of it. I do not suspect that what I have in it is lesser than what you have of it. I hope that each of us are upon good. It is necessary for each person among us to be pleased with what Allah has distributed for us. Peace.”
