Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Were is not for the children of Israel, meat would not spoil. Were it not for Eve, a wife would not betray her husband.”

Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi (authenticity agreed upon) according to Al-Bukhari and Muslim

Ibn Hajar said, “Wahb ibn Munabbih said: It is written in some divine books that had I (Allah) not decreed that meat would spoil, the rich would have hoarded it from the poor… The meaning of ‘betrayal’ here is not that she committed infidelity, certainly not! Rather, when she inclined to the desire of her soul to eat from the tree and she beautified that for Adam, it was considered a betrayal of him. As for women who came after her, the betrayal of each of them is on account of her deed (that she initiated).”
