Hadith on Dhul-Hijjah: Recommendation not to cut hair or nails before sacrifice

August 22, 2017

Umm Salamah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever sees the crescent moon of Dhul-Hijjah and intends to offer sacrifice, let him not cut anything from his hair and nails.”

At-Tirmidhi said, “It is the opinion of some of the scholars and was said by Sa’eed ibn Al-Musayyib, and this narration was practiced by Ahmad and Ishaq. Some of the scholars gave a concession in that, saying there is no harm to cut from the hair and nails; it was the opinion of Ash-Shafi’ee.”
