Hadith on Khamr: Muslims abandon alcohol when the verse comes

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was addressing people in Medina, saying, “O people, Allah Almighty is alluding to wine. Perhaps Allah will soon reveal an order regarding it. Whoever has some of it, let him sell it and benefit from it.” We did not wait but a little while until the Prophet said, “Verily, Allah Almighty has forbidden wine. Whoever knows this verse and has some of it, let him neither drink it nor sell it.” The people came out into the street with what they had and poured it out.
