Hadith on Speech: Most sins committed by the tongue

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Most of the sins of the children of Adam are on their tongues.”

Ibn Mas’ud said, “O tongue! Speak goodness and be rewarded, or remain silent and be safe, lest you become regretful.”

عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكْثَرُ خَطَايَا ابنِ آدَمَ فِي لِسَانِهِ

قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ يَا لِسَانُ قُلْ خَيْرًا تَغْنَمْ وَاسْكُتْ عَنْ شَرٍّ تَسْلَمْ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَنْدَمَ
