Hadith on Caliphs: The Prophet’s vision of Abu Bakr and Umar

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “While I was sleeping, I saw myself standing at a well and upon it was a bucket. I drew water from the well as much as Allah willed. Then, Ibn Abi Quhafah (Abu Bakr) took the bucket from me and brought out one or two buckets, but there was some weakness in his drawing of the water. May Allah forgive him for his weakness. Then, the bucket turned into a large one and Umar Ibn al-Khattab took it over. I have never seen such a mighty person among the people as him in performing such hard work, until the people drank to their satisfaction and their camels knelt down to drink.
