Al-Nawawi on integrity, uprightness, and steadfastness

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful

Al-Nawawi recorded in his book Riyad al-Salihin:

Chapter on integrity, uprightness, and steadfastness.

Source: Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn 1/38

Allah Almighty said:

Remain upright as you have been commanded, you and those who turn in repentance along with you, and do not transgress. Verily, He sees what you do.

Surat Hud 11:112

And Allah said:

Verily, those who say our Lord is Allah and then remain upright, the angels will descend upon them, saying: Do not fear nor grieve, and receive glad tidings of Paradise that you have been promised. We were your allies in the world and in the Hereafter. You will have therein whatever your souls desire and request, an accommodation from the Forgiving, the Merciful.

Surat Fussilat 41:30-32

And Allah said:

Verily, those who say our Lord is Allah and then remain upright, they will not fear, nor will they grieve. Those are the companions of Paradise, abiding therein as a reward for what they have done.

Surat al-Ahqaf 46:13-14

Sufyan ibn Abdullah reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a word in Islam I will not need to ask of anyone after you.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Say, ‘I have faith in Allah,’ and then remain steadfast.

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Follow the right course, seek nearness to Allah, and give glad tidings. Verily, none of you will enter Paradise by his deeds alone.

They said, “Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?” The Prophet said:

Not even me, unless Allah grants me his mercy. Know that the most beloved deed to Allah is that which is done regularly, even if it is small.
