Ibn Al-Qayyim on virtues of Arafat on Friday

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Ibn Al-Qayyim writes in his book Zaad Al-Ma’ad:

If it is said, “Which is better? Friday or the day of Arafat?” Then it has been narrated by Ibn Hibban in his book of authentic traditions on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

لَا تَطْلُعُ الشَّمْسُ وَلَا تَغْرُبُ عَلَى يَوْمٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ

The sun does not rise or set on a day better than Friday.

Ibn Hibban also narrated from Aws ibn Aws that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

خَيْرُ يَوْمٍ طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ

The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday.

Some of the scholars used this tradition as evidence that Friday is better than the day of Arafat. Al-Qadi Abu Ya’la narrated that Ahmad ibn Hanbal said the night of Friday is better than the Night of Decree (laylat al-qadr). The correct opinion is that Friday is the best day of the week, and the day of Arafat and day of sacrifices are the best days of the year, and likewise for the night of Friday and the Night of Decree. For this reason there are several distinguished virtues over other days when the day of Arafat occurs on a Friday.

First, when these two days coincide, two of the best days of the year will occur on the same day.

Second, Friday is the day which contains an hour during which Allah accepts supplications. Most of the scholars said that it is the last hour after the midday prayer (salat al-asr). At that time, those present at Arafat will be standing in its vicinity while supplicating to Allah.

Third, this will be similar to the time when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stood on the day of Arafat and it was Friday.

Fourth, Friday is the day when Muslims from all over the world gather to listen to the sermon and perform the Friday prayer. When the day of Arafat occurs on Friday, Muslims will have joined together in that area and in all mosques to pray and supplicate to Allah. No other occasion has a similar gathering in a single day.

Fifth, Friday is a day of celebration and the day of Arafat is a celebration for those standing in its vicinity. For this reason the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, discouraged fasting for those standing at Arafat. There is a weak tradition recorded by An-Nasa’i with this meaning from Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prohibited fasting on the day of Arafat while he was at Arafat. The chain of this narration is subject to criticism since it includes Mahdi ibn Harb whose reliability is not known.

There is an authentic tradition in the collections of Al-Bukhari and Muslim in which Umm Al-Fadl said, “On the day of Arafat, some people with me disagreed whether the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was fasting or not. Some said that he was fasting while others said he was not fasting. So I sent a vessel of milk to him while he was riding his camel at Arafat and he drank from it.”

There is a difference of opinion for the reason those standing at Arafat should abstain from fasting on the day of Arafat. Some scholars said the wisdom behind it is so that people will have more strength to pray and supplicate, and this is the saying of Al-Khiraqi and others. Other scholars, among them Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, said the wisdom behind it is that it is a celebration for the people of Arafat it is not recommended to fast during it. The evidence for this the tradition narrated in the Sunan collections that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

يَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ وَيَوْمُ النَّحْرِ وَأَيَّامُ مِنًى عِيدُنَا أَهْلَ الْإِسْلَامِ

The day of Arafat, the day of sacrifice, and the days of Mina are celebrations for us, the people of Islam.

Our Sheikh said the day of Arafat is a celebration for those present at Arafat, for unlike the rest of the Muslims they are gathered there. The rest of the Muslims gather during the day of sacrifice which is their day of celebration. When the day of Arafat occurs on Friday, these two celebration occur at the same time.

Sixth, the day of Arafat is the day upon which Allah completed the religion for His believing servants and perfect His favor upon them. There is an authentic tradition recorded by Al-Bukhari from Tariq ibn Shihab who said: A Jew said to Umar ibn Al-Khattab, “O leader of the believers, there is a verse in your book that you recite and had it been revealed to us we would have taken that day as a day of celebration.” Umar said, “Which verse is it?” The Jew said:

الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمْ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا

This day I have completed your religion for you, perfect my favor upon you, and have chosen Islam has your religion.

Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:3

Umar said:

قَدْ عَرَفْنَا ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ وَالْمَكَانَ الَّذِي نَزَلَتْ فِيهِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ بِعَرَفَةَ يَوْمَ جُمُعَةٍ

I know the day and place in which this verse was revealed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It was while he was standing on the day of Arafat on Friday.

Seventh, Friday will be the day of standing for the greatest gathering on the Day of Resurrection which will commence on a Friday. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

خَيْرُ يَوْمٍ طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ فِيهِ خُلِقَ آدَمُ وَفِيهِ أُدْخِلَ الْجَنَّةَ وَفِيهِ أُخْرِجَ مِنْهَا وَفِيهِ تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ وَفِيهِ سَاعَةٌ لَا يُوَافِقُهَا عَبْدٌ مُسْلِمٌ يَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ خَيْرًا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ

The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday. Adam was created on Friday and on it he entered Paradise and on it he was expelled from therein. The Hour will be established on Friday and there is an hour in each Friday during which a Muslim servant does not stand and ask Allah for goodness but that he will receive it.

Allah the Exalted legislated a day during which His servants gather and remember the beginning of creation, the Resurrection, Paradise, and Hellfire. Allah chose Friday for this nation, for beginning of man’s creation was on Friday and it will end on a Friday.

For this reason the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would recite Surat As-Sajda and Surat Al-Insan in the dawn prayer on Friday, as these two chapters news of what happened in the past and what is to come. They contain the news of the creation of Adam, the beginning and end of creation, and entrance into Paradise or Hellfire. The Prophet would remind the nation on Friday of what took place and what will take place.

Likewise, in the largest gathering on earth at Arafat on Friday, mankind remembers the great standing before the Lord Almighty. By the time half of the Day of Resurrection has past, the people of Paradise will be residing in their dwellings and the people of Hellfire in their dwellings.

Eighth, the obedience that Muslims give to Allah on Friday and during its night is at a higher level than other days. Even some sinners respect the night and day of Friday and imagine that those who dare to violate the prohibitions of Allah in that time will receive punishment in that instant without delay. They believe in this, stating that they learned it by experience. This demonstrates the status of Friday and its honor with Allah, especially since He chose it above all other days. Indeed, standing at Arafat on a Friday can only increase its virtue and status.

Ninth, Friday is the day when the people of Paradise will receive the ever-increasing reward. It is the day when they will see Allah the Exalted. Those who were the earliest to go to the mosque on Friday will be the first to receive this honor. Thus, the nearest to Allah were those nearest to the Imam on Friday. The residents of Paradise are eager for Friday, the day of such increase, due to the honor they will receive on that day. When the day of Arafat occurs on Friday, it thereby acquires even greater virtue and status.

Tenth, during the evening of the day of Arafat, Allah draws near to those standing in its vicinity and mentions their gathering to the angels, saying:

مَا أَرَادَ هَؤُلَاءِ أُشْهِدُكُمْ أَنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَهُمْ

What do these want? Bear witness that I have forgiven them.

Allah draws near to them at the time that coincides with the hour of accepted supplications, during which He will not fail anyone who asks Him for goodness and righteousness. The servants also draw near to Allah by invoking Him in submission and humility during that hour, thus earning two types of closeness:

First, that hour being the hour of accepted supplications.

Second, Allah drawing near to them while they are standing at Arafat and mentioned their gathering to the angels. This is when the hearts of the people of faith taste these virtues and increase in strength, happiness, and elation while hoping in the generosity of their Lord and His favor.

These are the virtues of the day of Arafat if it occurs on Friday, thereby elevating it above other days. As for the idea people among the masses that a day of Arafat that occurs on Friday is equal to seventy two Hajj pilgrimages is invalid and is not based upon an authentic tradition of the Prophet, his companions, or their follows. Allah knows best.

فَإِنْ قِيلَ فَأَيُّهُمَا أَفْضَلُ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ أَوْ يَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ فَقَدْ رَوَى ابْنُ حِبَّانَ فِي صَحِيحِهِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَطْلُعُ الشَّمْسُ وَلَا تَغْرُبُ عَلَى يَوْمٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ  وَفِيهِ أَيْضًا حَدِيثُ أوس بن أوس خَيْرُ يَوْمٍ طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ

قِيلَ قَدْ ذَهَبَ بَعْضُ الْعُلَمَاءِ إِلَى تَفْضِيلِ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ عَلَى يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ مُحْتَجًّا بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ وَحَكَى الْقَاضِي أبو يعلى رِوَايَةً عَنْ أحمد أَنَّ لَيْلَةَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ وَالصَّوَابُ أَنَّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَفْضَلُ أَيَّامِ الْأُسْبُوعِ وَيَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ وَيَوْمُ النَّحْرِ أَفْضَلُ أَيَّامِ الْعَامِ وَكَذَلِكَ لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ  وَلَيْلَةُ الْجُمُعَةِ وَلِهَذَا كَانَ لِوَقْفَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ مَزِيَّةٌ عَلَى سَائِرِ الْأَيَّامِ مِنْ وُجُوهٍ مُتَعَدِّدَةٍ

أَحَدُهَا اجْتِمَاعُ الْيَوْمَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ هُمَا أَفْضَلُ الْأَيَّامِ

الثَّانِي أَنَّهُ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي فِيهِ سَاعَةٌ مُحَقَّقَةُ الْإِجَابَةِ وَأَكْثَرُ الْأَقْوَالِ أَنَّهَا آخِرُ سَاعَةٍ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ وَأَهْلُ الْمَوْقِفِ كُلُّهُمْ إِذْ ذَاكَ وَاقِفُونَ لِلدُّعَاءِ وَالتَّضَرُّعِ

الثَّالِثُ مُوَافَقَتُهُ لِيَوْمِ وَقْفَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

الرَّابِعُ أَنَّ فِيهِ اجْتِمَاعَ الْخَلَائِقِ مِنْ أَقْطَارِ الْأَرْضِ لِلْخُطْبَةِ وَصَلَاةِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَيُوَافِقُ ذَلِكَ اجْتِمَاعَ أَهْلِ عَرَفَةَ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ بِعَرَفَةَ  فَيَحْصُلُ مِنَ اجْتِمَاعِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فِي مَسَاجِدِهِمْ وَمَوْقِفِهِمْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ وَالتَّضَرُّعِ مَا لَا يَحْصُلُ فِي يَوْمٍ سِوَاهُ

الْخَامِسُ أَنَّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ يَوْمُ عِيدٍ وَيَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ يَوْمُ عِيدٍ لِأَهْلِ عَرَفَةَ وَلِذَلِكَ كُرِهَ لِمَنْ بِعَرَفَةَ صَوْمُهُ وَفِي النَّسَائِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ بِعَرَفَةَ وَفِي إِسْنَادِهِ نَظَرٌ فَإِنَّ مهدي بن حرب العبدي لَيْسَ بِمَعْرُوفٍ  وَمَدَارُهُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَكِنْ ثَبَتَ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أم الفضل أَنَّ نَاسًا تَمَارَوْا عِنْدَهَا يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ فِي صِيَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ هُوَ صَائِمٌ  وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لَيْسَ بِصَائِمٍ  فَأَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيْهِ بِقَدَحِ لَبَنٍ وَهُوَ وَاقِفٌ عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ بِعَرَفَةَ فَشَرِبَهُ

وَقَدِ اخْتُلِفَ فِي حِكْمَةِ اسْتِحْبَابِ فِطْرِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ بِعَرَفَةَ فَقَالَتْ طَائِفَةٌ لِيَتَقَوَّى عَلَى الدُّعَاءِ وَهَذَا هُوَ قَوْلُ الخرقي وَغَيْرِهِ وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُمْ  مِنْهُمْ شَيْخُ الْإِسْلَامِ ابن تيمية الْحِكْمَةُ فِيهِ أَنَّهُ عِيدٌ لِأَهْلِ عَرَفَةَ  فَلَا يُسْتَحَبُّ صَوْمُهُ لَهُمْ قَالَ وَالدَّلِيلُ عَلَيْهِ الْحَدِيثُ الَّذِي فِي السُّنَنِ عَنْهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ وَيَوْمُ النَّحْرِ وَأَيَّامُ مِنًى عِيدُنَا أَهْلَ الْإِسْلَامِ  

قَالَ شَيْخُنَا وَإِنَّمَا يَكُونُ يَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ عِيدًا فِي حَقِّ أَهْلِ عَرَفَةَ لِاجْتِمَاعِهِمْ فِيهِ  بِخِلَافِ أَهْلِ الْأَمْصَارِ فَإِنَّهُمْ إِنَّمَا يَجْتَمِعُونَ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ فَكَانَ هُوَ الْعِيدَ فِي حَقِّهِمْ وَالْمَقْصُودُ أَنَّهُ إِذَا اتَّفَقَ يَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ وَيَوْمُ جُمُعَةٍ  فَقَدِ اتَّفَقَ عِيدَانِ مَعًا

السَّادِسُ أَنَّهُ مُوَافِقٌ لِيَوْمِ إِكْمَالِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى دِينَهُ لِعِبَادِهِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِتْمَامِ نِعْمَتِهِ عَلَيْهِمْ كَمَا ثَبَتَ فِي صَحِيحِ الْبُخَارِيِّ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ جَاءَ يَهُودِيٌّ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ آيَةٌ تَقْرَءُونَهَا فِي كِتَابِكُمْ لَوْعَلَيْنَا مَعْشَرَ الْيَهُودِ نَزَلَتْ وَنَعْلَمُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ الَّذِي نَزَلَتْ فِيهِ لَاتَّخَذْنَاهُ عِيدًا قَالَ أَيُّ آيَةٍ قَالَ الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ الْيَوْمَ الَّذِي نَزَلَتْ فِيهِ  وَالْمَكَانَ الَّذِي نَزَلَتْ فِيهِ نَزَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعَرَفَةَ يَوْمَ جُمُعَةٍ  وَنَحْنُ وَاقِفُونَ مَعَهُ بِعَرَفَةَ

السَّابِعُ : أَنَّهُ مُوَافِقٌ لِيَوْمِ الْجَمْعِ الْأَكْبَرِ وَالْمَوْقِفِ الْأَعْظَمِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَإِنَّ الْقِيَامَةَ تَقُومُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ كَمَا قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيْرُ يَوْمٍ طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ  فِيهِ خُلِقَ آدَمُ  وَفِيهِ أُدْخِلَ الْجَنَّةَ  وَفِيهِ أُخْرِجَ مِنْهَا  وَفِيهِ تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ  وَفِيهِ سَاعَةٌ لَا يُوَافِقُهَا عَبْدٌ مُسْلِمٌ يَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ خَيْرًا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ وَلِهَذَا شَرَعَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى لِعِبَادِهِ يَوْمًا يَجْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ  فَيَذْكُرُونَ الْمَبْدَأَ وَالْمَعَادَ وَالْجَنَّةَ وَالنَّارَ  وَادَّخَرَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى لِهَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِذْ فِيهِ كَانَ الْمَبْدَأُ وَفِيهِ الْمَعَادُ وَلِهَذَا كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي فَجْرِهِ سُورَتَيِ السَّجْدَةِ  وَ هَلْ أَتَى عَلَى الْإِنْسَانِ لِاشْتِمَالِهِمَا عَلَى مَا كَانَ وَمَا يَكُونُ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ  مِنْ خَلْقِ آدَمَ  وَذِكْرِ الْمَبْدَأِ وَالْمَعَادِ وَدُخُولِ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ فَكَانَ يُذَكِّرُ الْأُمَّةَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ بِمَا كَانَ فِيهِ وَمَا يَكُونُ فَهَكَذَا يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ بِأَعْظَمِ مَوَاقِفِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُوَ يَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ الْمَوْقِفَ الْأَعْظَمَ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الرَّبِّ سُبْحَانَهُ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ بِعَيْنِهِ وَلَا يَتَنَصَّفُ حَتَّى يَسْتَقِرَّ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ فِي مَنَازِلِهِمْ وَأَهْلُ النَّارِ فِي مَنَازِلِهِمْ

الثَّامِنُ أَنَّ الطَّاعَةَ الْوَاقِعَةَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَلَيْلَةَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَكْثَرُ مِنْهَا فِي سَائِرِ الْأَيَّامِ حَتَّى إِنَّ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِ الْفُجُورِ يَحْتَرِمُونَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَلَيْلَتَهُ وَيَرَوْنَ أَنَّ مَنْ تَجَرَّأَ فِيهِ عَلَى مَعَاصِي اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَجَّلَ اللَّهُ عُقُوبَتَهُ وَلَمْ يُمْهِلْهُ وَهَذَا أَمْرٌ قَدِ اسْتَقَرَّ عِنْدَهُمْ وَعَلِمُوهُ بِالتَّجَارِبِ وَذَلِكَ لِعِظَمِ الْيَوْمِ وَشَرَفِهِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ  وَاخْتِيَارِ اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ لَهُ مِنْ بَيْنِ سَائِرِ الْأَيَّامِ وَلَا رَيْبَ أَنَّ لِلْوَقْفَةِ فِيهِ مَزِيَّةً عَلَى غَيْرِهِ

التَّاسِعُ أَنَّهُ مُوَافِقٌ لِيَوْمِ الْمَزِيدِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَهُوَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي يُجْمَعُ فِيهِ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ فِي وَادٍ أَفْيَحَ  وَيُنْصَبُ لَهُمْ مَنَابِرُ مِنْ لُؤْلُؤٍ  وَمَنَابِرُ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ  وَمَنَابِرُ مِنْ زَبَرْجَدٍ وَيَاقُوتٍ عَلَى كُثْبَانِ الْمِسْكِ فَيَنْظُرُونَ إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى وَيَتَجَلَّى لَهُمْ فَيَرَوْنَهُ عِيَانًا وَيَكُونُ أَسْرَعُهُمْ مُوَافَاةً أَعْجَلَهُمْ رَوَاحًا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ  وَأَقْرَبُهُمْ مِنْهُ أَقْرَبَهُمْ مِنَ الْإِمَامِ فَأَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ مُشْتَاقُونَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْمَزِيدِ فِيهَا لِمَا يَنَالُونَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْكَرَامَةِ  وَهُوَ يَوْمُ جُمُعَةٍ  فَإِذَا وَافَقَ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ كَانَ لَهُ زِيَادَةُ مَزِيَّةٍ وَاخْتِصَاصٍ وَفَضْلٍ لَيْسَ لِغَيْرِهِ

الْعَاشِرُ أَنَّهُ يَدْنُو الرَّبُّ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَشِيَّةَ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَوْقِفِ  ثُمَّ يُبَاهِي بِهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ فَيَقُولُ مَا أَرَادَ هَؤُلَاءِ أُشْهِدُكُمْ أَنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَهُمْ وَتَحْصُلُ مَعَ دُنُوِّهِ مِنْهُمْ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى سَاعَةُ الْإِجَابَةِ الَّتِي لَا يَرُدُّ فِيهَا سَائِلًا يَسْأَلُ خَيْرًا فَيَقْرُبُونَ مِنْهُ بِدُعَائِهِ وَالتَّضَرُّعِ إِلَيْهِ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ  وَيَقْرُبُ مِنْهُمْ تَعَالَى نَوْعَيْنِ مِنَ الْقُرْبِ أَحَدُهُمَا قُرْبُ الْإِجَابَةِ الْمُحَقَّقَةِ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ وَالثَّانِي قُرْبُهُ الْخَاصُّ مِنْ أَهْلِ عَرَفَةَ  وَمُبَاهَاتُهُ بِهِمْ مَلَائِكَتَهُ  فَتَسْتَشْعِرُ قُلُوبُ أَهْلِ الْإِيمَانِ هَذِهِ الْأُمُورَ فَتَزْدَادُ قُوَّةً إِلَى قُوَّتِهَا وَفَرَحًا وَسُرُورًا وَابْتِهَاجًا وَرَجَاءً لِفَضْلِ رَبِّهَا وَكَرَمِهِ  فَبِهَذِهِ الْوُجُوهِ وَغَيْرِهَا فُضِّلَتْ وَقْفَةُ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ عَلَى غَيْرِهَا

وَأَمَّا مَا اسْتَفَاضَ عَلَى أَلْسِنَةِ الْعَوَامِّ بِأَنَّهَا تَعْدِلُ ثِنْتَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ حَجَّةً  فَبَاطِلٌ لَا أَصْلَ لَهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ  وَلَا عَنْ أَحَدٍ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ وَالتَّابِعِينَ  وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ
