My name is Abu Amina Elias (Justin Parrott). My website is dedicated to presenting the teachings of Islam according to the Quran, the Sunnah, the way of the righteous predecessors, and the scholars who followed them. Citations are always provided so that readers can independently verify the authenticity of the information and inform me of corrections as needed.
This website is intended as an educational resource, providing access to primary Islamic sources and serving as a bridge to qualified scholars. I work as a compiler, translator, researcher, information scientist, and academic librarian in Islamic studies, but I do not claim to be a Shaykh, Mufti, or independent religious authority.
I learned the scholarly disciplines of Islam as an assistant to my mentor, Shaykh Dr. Houcine Chouat. I have served as a volunteer Imam and Khatib (Friday preacher) at various institutions for the last fifteen years, and I was blessed to be the Instructor of Islamic Creed at Mishkah University for two years until I had to step down for other projects.
As for my methodology, I follow the way of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal in his understanding of the Sunnah. My creed is found in the texts of al-ʻAqīdah al-Ṭaḥāwīyah and al-‘Aqīdah al-Wāsiṭīyah, both of which I have translated on my website. I rely upon the great classical scholars such as the Four Imams, Imam al-Tahawi, Imam al-Tabari, Imam al-Nawawi, Imam al-Barbahari, Imam al-Ghazali, Imam al-Qushayri, Imam al-Qurtubi, Imam Ibn Hajar al-’Asqalani, Imam al-Suyuti, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, Imam Ibn al-Qayyim, Imam Ibn Rajab, Imam Ibn al-Jawzi, Imam Ibn Qudamah, Imam Ibn Kathir, Imam al-Shawkani, and Imam al-San’ani. I strive with all my effort to take the best from their works and from the Four Schools, that which is in most agreement with the Quran and Sunnah, and I excuse their errors, as no scholar or school is immune from error, most especially myself.
I follow the senior scholars of our time, such as Shaykh ‘Abdurahman al-Sa’di, Shaykh ‘Abdul Hamid ibn Badis, Shaykh ‘Abdulaziz Ibn Baz, Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, Shaykh al-Albani, Shaykh Shuayb al-Arna’ut, Shaykh Ahmad Shakir, Shaykh Salih Ali al-Shaykh, and Shaykh Wahbah al-Zuhayli. I rely upon them all for guidance, understanding, and verdicts based upon knowledge and piety. If they are correct, I obey them. If they are wrong, I ask Allah to forgive them and reward them for their ijtihād (effort in seeking the truth). I pray for the guidance of our Muslim political leaders, even if they are oppressive, and I do not incite khurūj (rebellion) against them, as is the confirmed Sunnah.
Anything good and true that I say comes from Allah Almighty and then His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, and anything wrong and false that I say comes from myself, my ignorance, and Satan. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Devil, lest he misguide me and I misguide others.
